Abstract
The aim of this study was the evaluation of the effect the whole body cryotherapy on the severity of symptoms and subjectively perceived satisfaction with life of ambulatory patients treated with affective disorders and anxiety.
Method: The experimental group was subjected to the short (120-180 sec) exposure to temperature of -110 ° C to -160 ° C in series of 15 procedures made day by day.
It was analyzed the experimental group (n = 26) and control group (n = 34) obtained before and after its completion. No interferences occured in the psychopharmacological treatment. Used depression scale and Hamilton anxiety scale and the scale of life satisfaction.
Results: It is found that the average decrease was significantly greater and the average final state of the experimental group improved in termsof 11 of the 14 components of the scale of anxiety here (except for symptoms of gastrointestinal, genitourinary and behavior during the test).
The average decrease in depression scale was significantly higher and the average final state of the experimental group improved in terms of 12 of the 16 components of the scale of depression outside of the digestive system, reproductive system, hypochondria, body weight and criticism.
A significant improvement in life satisfaction were found in the experimental group against 6 from 11 stores (physical and mental condition, home and professional activity, performance of their interests and general life satisfaction).
Conclusions: In patients with depressive and anxiety disorders undergoing a cycle of 15 treatments of the whole body cryotherapy observed an improvement in their mental status. Obtained significantly higher compared to the control group, regression of psychopathological symptoms and improve life satisfaction.
